Public Central Library of Rethymno

Mobile library

The Public Central Library of Rethymno has two mobile Libraries, which visit Primary and Secondary schools throughout Crete, with priority given to schools that lack a school library and are located far from urban centers.

The mobile libraries implement the project “Supporting the educational act by Mobile Libraries” which is included in the EPEAEK of the Ministry of Education and is financed by the 3rd KPS. The task of the mobile libraries is to support the educational process by providing library services (loan books, etc. educational material and access to electronic databases via CD-ROM and internet), in the remote schools of Crete, which is an area of responsibility of the Public Central Library Rethymno, as well as the service of the other schools in the region that do not have a school library. In addition, mobile libraries function as branches of the central library for the entire population of remote areas.

Kiniti’s material is carefully selected to serve its educational, educational and entertaining role. There is physical and electronic processing to make it ready for lending. Mobile Library staff educate students and the wider school and local community in the pursuit of knowledge and prepare them for the Information Society.

Mobile libraries aim:

• To eliminate inequalities in the education system between center and region.

• Ensuring support in the educational process and in particular in the fuller implementation of the syllabus.

• In the development of information search skills and training in information retrieval through new technologies.

• To the indirect access of remote areas to the services of the Public Central Library.

• In the development of the students’ positive attitude towards reading and using the Library throughout life.

• To increase the readability and use of libraries.
